For several years now, the city of Marseille and its region have been actively transforming and enhancing the urban landscape with a series of eco-friendly projects. Gastronomy and Architecture form the beating heart of this new chapter in Provence’s history. Your short break features an exciting selection of architectural tours and culinary discoveries, including wine and local produce tasting, an urban vegetable garden, top tables and promising young chefs…

This short break can be adapted to take into account certain disabilities on request.

Day 1

STAGE 1 – The new face of culture in Marseille

Morning arrival in Marseille. Tour of the J4 esplanade, symbolizing the new face of Marseille. Tour of the Mucem museum, including the main building with its characteristic mesh facade and the rehabilitated spaces of Fort Saint Jean, offering magnificent views over the city and bay.

Group lunch at La Môle Passédat.

STAGE 2 – Euroméditerranée, the city's new flagship quarter

Walk and tram ride in the business district of La Joliette, at the heart of the Euroméditerranée quarter and tour of its main buildings. Local hot chocolate tasting in late afternoon.

STAGE 3 – Authentic Marseille

Arrival at your four-star hotel on the Vieux Port. Welcome gift: pot of “Mieldes Garrigues” honey, produced naturally in the hills around Marseille.

Welcome dinner at a restaurant in the typical little port of Les Goudes, where you will savour the region’s best “bourride” fish stew.

Day 2

STAGE 1 – Pays Aixois, the genteel lifestyle of Provence

Coach trip to Aix-en-Provence, an official “Town of Art & History”. Tour of the pedestrian streetsin the historic quarter and typical Provencal market. You will enjoy a tasting workshopfeaturing local delicacies. A gift isoffered at the end of the workshop.

Departure for lunch at amagnificent Châteauset inside a vineyard. Tasting of Provencal specialitiespaired with Château organic wine.

STAGE 2 – Art & Wine stroll

After lunch, departure to Château Lacoste and tour of its unique contemporary arts centre set inside the vineyard, owned by an Irish art collector.

STAGE 3 – From aniseed to Pastis

The afternoon ends with a tour of a renowned spirits factoryin Marseille, still producing authentic pastis. Factory tour and tasting session.

Dinner at the restaurant of a talented young chef.

Day 3

STAGE 1 – The Alpilles and charming olive groves painted by Van Gogh

Departure to the Alpilles area, famed for its olive groves and olive oil. 

Visit to the Carrières de Lumières, an ancient stone quarry now the venue for spectacular multimedia shows.

STAGE 2 – History, tradition and modernity

Olive oil tasting – the star of Provencal cuisine – at a magnificent 17th-century Château. Departure to Arles, famed for its stunning Roman monuments and immortalized by Van Gogh.

STAGE 3 – Arles, a cultural rebirth

Tour of this brand-new Foundation built on the site of the town’s ancient railway workshops.

Walking tour of Arles featuring the town’s Roman monuments.

STAGE 4 – Return to Marseille and gourmet dinner

Farewell dinner at a star-rated restaurant, paying tribute to Mediterranean seafood.

Day 4

STAGE 1 – Parks & gardens of Marseille

Breakfast followed by coach trip to an urban kitchen garden planted by local citizens to promote healthier and more environmentally-friendly produce. Meet and greet with the owners and edible flower tasting.

STAGE 2 – Le Corbusier's "Cité Radieuse"

Tour of Le Corbusier’s famous Living Unit (1952). It is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

 

STAGE 3 – Market cuisine and end of stay

Lunch at a local restaurant specializing in market cuisine.
